One of the most valuable things to me as a mama is my “village” — the people that surround and support me as I raise my children. As the first in my circle of friends to have a baby, I didn’t have many people in my life to connect, commiserate and celebrate with for the first couple months of my daughter’s life so these mom Instagram accounts were so helpful!
Of course my family was always present and sought to help whenever I reached out. Still, there is nothing like the camaraderie of someone who is right in the metaphorical trenches with you. After repeated encouragement (and prodding) from a more experienced mama friend, I got connected with a local community group for new mamas and began to feel supported like never before.
Needless to say, some of the women and their daughters remain best friends of ours almost four years later. Don’t wait to get connected to other mamas in your community!
Another way that I have felt support and connection is through media, namely mom Instagram accounts. There are countless groups, families and women. They use Instagram as a platform to share their struggles, ideas and support for a variety of parenting, self-care, post-partum, birth issues, etc. Here are a few of my go to mom Instagram accounts that have reminded me on countless occasions that I am normal, that I am not alone and that I can do this!
(Note: While I value the people I follow, I am not endorsing them in their entirety. Please use your own discretion.)
